CATHERINE DESHAYES, France 1675.
Better known as Madame La Voisin, she was the protagonist of the poison scandal at the court of Louis XIV, in which some of the most prominent ladies of the kingdom were involved. La Voisin was a lustful adventurer, woman of the people, always lived by expedients, dedicated to palmistry and sexual magic, practiced clandestine abortions, prepared powerful filters and love potions and did not disdain to supply poison to her clients to get rid of lovers or importunate husbands. She increased her power over them by means of satanic rites, in the course of which she sacrificed infants and babies. The chronicles tell us that the evening before being burned alive at the stake she drank and ate happily, not at all repentant of her nefarious actions.
