Marcello Geppetti

Marcello Geppetti (Rieti, 1933 – Rome, 1998) was one of the greatest Italian photographers of the 20th century. “The most underrated photographer in history,” as David Schonauer, editor of American Photo, described him in 1997 during an exhibition at the Robert Miller Gallery in New York. Famous for his photos of the Dolce Vita, including “The Kiss” between Liz Taylor and Richard Burton in Ischia, marking the beginning of the most famous love story in cinema, or the arrows thrown by Anita Ekberg at the paparazzi, he was actually a great photographer of news and everyday life. Some articles in The New York Times and Newsweek even compared him to Henri Cartier-Bresson and Weegee. His photos were displayed alongside those of Andy Warhol and Cecil Beaton. His archive contains over a million negatives.
