Anna Magnani walking in Via Veneto. Rome, November 1961
Iconic actress, Anna Magnani's career began with small roles in the films "Scampolo" and "La blind from Sorrento", during the years of Nazi occupation, while her first important role was offered to her in 1944 by Vittorio de Sica in “ Teresa Friday". ", followed by Roberto Rossellini who chose her for the part of Sora Pina in "Rome, open city", a film with worldwide success that consecrated Anna Magnani as a symbol of post-war neorealist cinema.
Anna became the protagonist of Italian and international films such as "The Tattooed Rose", which led her to be the first Italian to win the Oscar for best actress in 1956, followed by a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. Subsequently, in 1962 Pier Paolo Pasolini chose her to interpret "Mamma Roma" and, ten years later, Nannarella appeared for the last time in Federico Fellini's "Roma", a year before her untimely death.
An intelligent actress with a big heart, but at the same time a woman of the people who knew how to pay homage to the Roman character. In this photo by Marcello Geppetti she is portrayed absorbed in thought while walking along Via Veneto carrying her dachshund with her.
